First, you took 3 times the amount we recommend to start with. Secondly, even the most "reputable companies" add excipients to make the MSM easier to work with and to reduce costs (look at the lable for "inert ingredients" such as silica and magnesium stearate)--we do not. And I (and others) can tell you from my own personal experience with other supplements that boils are not uncommon when starting on something that impacts your immune system, good quality vitamins being one of these supplements.
However, I am not here to try to convince you to take MSM. But if you do decide to try it again, I would suggest doing it right this time with absolutely pure MSM starting at no more than 1000 mg a day for at least a week before going up any higher. Then add only 1000 mg more at the most at any one time. And be sure to drink the additional water that we recommend.
: I took 3000mg to start, dropped quickly to 2000mg then 1000mg. The msm was from a reputable company around since the seventies. Panacea or modern day snake oil? I've been taking quality supplements for years and never had such a bad reaction. I'm just saying it doesn't work for everyone. I firmly don't believe that boils or other bad skin reactions etc. are a cleansing experience. They are an adverse reaction to what you just started taking. R. Smith
