In Reply to: MSM, detox symptoms/allergic reaction? posted by Robert Smith on October 12, 2004 at 23:32:15:
I see I never replied to any of this thread before, so I apologize for my delay. Apparently the initial date for David's posts were while we were travelling so I'm afraid it got lost in the shuffle.
I don't know that I would have kept taking MSM had I had some of the reactions described in this series of posts. But there are several unanswered questions that I have. How pure was the MSM (i.e. where was it bought)? How much was taken initially? Was anything else taken with it (like the vitamin C that we recommend)?
It is clear from David's posts that his MSM torpedos were not pure MSM by the very nature of the product. There are obvious binders and fillers involved in making them. That is why we do not carry them nor recommend them.
Robert's posts are less clear because of the lack of information, but something seems amiss because so few people have that sort of reaction to MSM unless way too much was being taken to start with.
What I can say is, out of the literal tons of MSM that we have sold to our customers, we hear so few bad reactions like this. And the experts still maintain that no one can be allergic to MSM (not that these really sound like allergic reactions).
Another thing that I can say is, when I have started on other products that strengthen my immune system (or more accurately bring my immune system back to normal), there have been times when initially I will get an outbreak of more pimples than normal or a boil or two. I have interpreted this to mean that my body is finally fighting infection that has been there all along. Within a week or so the outbreak is gone and I find I am healthier and more resistant to disease than before. I have seen this so many times as I have started and then stopped and then started things again, that I know this is a normal detox symptom, at least for some of us.
